A comprehensive overview of Colorado's FED process and how it is impacted by state and federal protections afforded to veterans.  The speakers will provide a refresher on the Colorado FED process as well an update on recent statutory and case law developments impacting Colorado evictions.  Then, the speakers will discuss how the overlay of laws protecting veterans might impact both landlords and tenants involved in an eviction case in 2024.  Get the prospective of both a practitioner and a sitting County Court Judge.

Judge Craig Schuenemann was appointed by Governor Jared Polis to be the Saguache County Court Judge in 2022.  In that capacity, Judge Schuenemann hears misdemeanor, traffic, FED, protection order and civil cases from their inception through trial.  Judge Schuenemann also handles felony complaints through the preliminary hearing stage of the case.
Judge Schuenemann also maintains an active practice as an attorney with the international law firm of Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner, LLP.  In that capacity, Mr. Schuenemann represents national banks, real estate investment entities, energy companies and corporations in proceedings before federal bankruptcy courts. He is experienced in representing secured creditors in all facets of the bankruptcy process.  He also routinely appears on behalf of unsecured creditors, committees, and foreign trustees and has achieved victories for numerous clients in adversary proceedings brought by Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 Trustees. In concert with his bankruptcy practice, Mr. Schuenemann often counsels clients on receiverships, workouts and distressed transactions.  
Mr. Schuenemann also represents commercial clients in complex litigation of tort, breach of contract, and construction actions. Mr. Schuenemann has vast experience with a variety of financial services litigation matters, including the recovery of collateral, enforcement of guarantees, and defense of wrongful foreclosure claims.
Before attending law school, Mr. Schuenemann was an active duty military officer in the United States Navy.  He deployed overseas as a helicopter pilot several times, including an eight month deployment to support combat operations in Iraq.  While attending law school, Mr. Schuenemann continued his service as an active duty naval officer at the Pentagon where he served as the military assistant to the General Counsel of the Navy.
Mr. Schuenemann has devoted significant time to pro bono representation of low-income and veteran clients.
Mr. Schuenemann clerked for the Honorable Charles Weller in Nevada's Second Judicial District from 2008-2009.
 
Sandra J. Nettleton's diverse experience undeniably enhances the Family Law,  Civil Litigation & Real Estate Team. Sandra's knowledge of the law coupled with her mathematical background create a unique strength welcomed by any client.   
Following a successful aerospace engineering career in the United States Air Force, Sandra sought to change direction in her life. She desired a profession devoted to helping others, and she found that in the law.
Sandra's previous work as a Defense Department systems engineer, analyst, and program manager inspired her to choose civil litigation and real estate as well as Family La, as her practice areas. While these may seem like unlikely choices given her mathematical adeptness, she finds they are the perfect pairing. Sandra meticulously analyzes her clients' cases, exploring the underlying facts, theories of law, and legal strategies to support their position.
Clients who work with Sandra experience a personalized service with one-on-one communication that exceeds their expectations. In addition to her legal and analytical knowledge, she utilizes her vast life experiences to reach a favorable outcome for each client's unique set of circumstances and issues.
Prior to joining, Sandra practiced law mainly on the western slope and rural mountain communities, including Clear Creek, Delta, Eagle, Grand, Lake, Mesa, Park, and Summit Counties. Sandra is a former assistant town attorney in Delta County and a former municipal prosecutor for Leadville in Lake County. Along the Front Range, she has worked in Adams, Arapahoe, Denver, El Paso, and Jefferson Counties.
When Sandra gets time away from the office, she enjoys traveling around the U.S. and abroad with her children or on solo journeys. She once took an eight-week road trip exploring the U.S. via two-lane country roads. Sandra's daughter and son both live in Colorado.
