9:00 a.m. with Jason St. Julian: “Ethics: What you didn’t learn in the classroom”. The presentation explains how ethics is the backdrop of the practicing attorney. The presentation further details the real-world application of ethics in practice, not in theory.

 

Jason is an Assistant United States Attorney in Denver, Colorado. He works in the Violent Crime and Immigration Enforcement Section of the Criminal Division.

10:00 a.m. with Matt Broderick: Setting yourself up for Success in Firm Life.

 

11:00 a.m. with Justice Gabriel: The Appellate Case. This program will provide some tips for more effective appellate advocacy, including suggestions for more persuasive writing and more effective oral argument.

1:00 p.m. with Judge Faye: Approaching the Court. This session will provide advice for young lawyers on how to be prepared and present themselves in court. She'll also share a bit about how she became a judge.

 

Judge Faye practiced as a civil litigator for Holmes Roberts & Owen LLP (Now Bryan Cave LLP) and for David, Graham, and Stubb LLP. She then became a deputy district attorney in the 20th Judicial District and then to the City Attorney's Office as an Assistant City Attorney.

2:00 p.m. with David Beller: “Cross examination: the client’s story through chapters.” In this presentation, lawyers will learn skills of cross examination to advance their theory of the case through organization, question formation, impeachment, purpose, and style.

 

David Beller is a partner at Recht Kornfeld where he specializes in criminal defense litigation, attorney discipline, and the collateral consequences that accompany a criminal allegation. He represents individuals and organizations involved as targets, subjects, or witnesses in state and federal criminal investigations and related grand jury and pretrial proceedings.

3:00 p.m. with Joi Cush and Matt Deegan: Bar Involvement. This program involves a discussion about why members of the legal community should get involved in the different bar associations (CBA and DBA), especially as young lawyers, and how they can contribute to the legal field and benefit from being involved.

 

Joi is a partner at Johnson Kush, PC. She handles a variety of cases including complex custody disputes, high net worth marital estates, and post-decree issues. Joi graduated from the University of Denver in 2007 and from Albany Law School in 2010.
