Rule of Law

Join the CBA to celebrate Law Day with a presentation on the Rule of Law from Our Courts Colorado. Our Courts is a nationally recognized program that offers nonpartisan informational presentations to further public knowledge and understanding of the state and
federal courts in Colorado. This presentation will explain the concept of the rule of law, what comprises it, and the courts' role in preserving it.
 
Speaker:  Hon. Russell E. Carparelli
Judge Russ Carparelli graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy, the University of Denver's Sturm College of Law, and the University of Virginia School of Law. From 1970 to 1990, he served on active duty as a Judge Advocate in the U.S. Air Force. While in the Air Force, he served in various capacities including military trial judge, military appellate judge, and legal counsel to the Air Force General Staff. He retired from the Air Force in the grade of Lieutenant Colonel, after which he was in private practice in Golden and Denver. He was appointed to the Colorado Court of Appeals by Governor Bill Owens in February 2003 and served there until his retirement in December 2013. Judge Carparelli has received numerous awards over the course of his career, including the Denver Bar Association's Judicial excellence Award; the University of Virginia's William J. Brennan, Jr., Award in recognition of his skills as a judge, his contributions to the National Trial Advocacy College, and his contributions to the legal profession; and the American Bar Association's Civility and Law Award. He is also proud of the national recognition received by the Our Courts program, which he co-founded. Judge Carparelli now serves on the Sturm College of Law Alumni Council, he is active in efforts to increase diversity on the bench, and the provides mediation and arbitration services to parties in litigated matters.
