Presentation Description

The practice of law is stressful under “normal” circumstances.  However, the changing and uncertain circumstances of the pandemic have increased stress levels for both members of the legal community and the public.  When our nervous systems activate a survival response, it is uncomfortable and creates heightened reactivity and strong emotional states that can lead to difficult behavior to manage.  This presentation will cover tips for how to support yourself and your clients in a way that builds resiliency, reduces the potential for stressful interactions, and maintains professional boundaries.  It will also help you understand the neurobiology and neurophysiology of stress, how stress is contagious, and how to alleviate your stress response before it becomes compassion fatigue or burnout.  In addition, practical ways to mitigate the physical, emotional, and cognitive damage that can result from chronic stress and lack of self-care will be provided.
