"Navigating a Multi-Generational Workplace & Legal Field"

We have 5 generations working together for the first time in history, each with their own perceptions of professional courtesy, communication preferences, and expectations of professionalism. Because we’re human beings (we don’t stop being humans when we become employees/lawyers) we naturally assume these professional views are known, understood and shared with each of the other generations. They’re not.

Each generation approaches interactions with co-workers, clients, opposing counsel and judicial officers through their own lens and world view without understanding the differences among them, which can lead to unnecessary assumptions, stereotyping, misunderstandings, miscommunications and frustration.

On November 20th, we will tease apart the very different generational styles in communication, interactions and approaches to their careers, in order to build an empathetic, cohesive work environment and eliminate preconceptions and assumptions.
