Please join us for Ethics for Government Lawyers 2019. This CLE is being co-sponsored by the Colorado Department of Law and the CBA’s Government Counsel Section. It is open to all government attorneys. 
 
This presentation will review any recent changes to the Colorado Rules of Professional Conduct that apply to lawyers generally, as well as government lawyers in particular. It will also provide an overview and survey of recent Colorado cases that touch on issues of professional responsibility law and ethics.
 
Speakers:
Alec Rothrock- Alec Rothrock is a shareholder with the Greenwood Village law firm of Burns Figa & Will, P.C. and an adjunct professor of legal ethics at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law. He practices in the area of legal ethics and the law of practicing law. He is a former chair of the Colorado Bar Association Ethics Committee and current chair of the Colorado Judicial Ethics Advisory Board.

Alec Rothrock will cover Colorado cases, ethics opinions and rules issued in 2019.
 
 
 
First Assistant US Attorney, Matthew Kirsch- Matt Kirsch is the First Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Colorado, and he has been an Assistant U.S. Attorney for twenty years. He has prosecuted a variety of crimes throughout his career but has focused on complex economic crimes. He received his undergraduate degree from Harvard College and his law degree from Duke University. He also clerked for a United States District Judge in the Middle District of North Carolina and, between college and law school, taught at a boarding school in Shrewsbury, England. Matt is the Chair of the Colorado Bar Association Ethics Committee and has participated in various committees related to the Colorado Rules of Professional Responsibility. He has also served as a Professional Responsibility Officer for the United States Attorney’s Office.

Matt Kirsch will cover recent changes to Rule 8.4(c).
 
 
 
 
Professor Eli Wald- Eli Wald is the Charles W. Delaney Jr. Professor of Law at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law. A legal ethics expert, Wald has written on topics such as diversity and inclusiveness, lawyers and cybersecurity, lawyer mobility, and the challenges facing lawyers representing clients in the emerging marijuana industry. A co-author of a leading legal ethics casebook, his work has appeared in journals such as the Fordham, Stanford, University of Colorado, and Wisconsin law reviews, and the Georgetown Journal of Legal Ethics. Prof. Wald is a member of the Colorado Supreme Court Standing Committee on the Rules of Professional Conduct, the Colorado State Bar Association’s Ethics Committee and the Colorado Judicial Ethics Advisory Board. He holds SJD and LLM degrees from Harvard Law School and LLB and BA degrees from Tel-Aviv University.
