This event will focus on how Judges, lawyers, and legal professionals often absorb and "take on" the stress, trauma, and problems of others in the course of their work. From a neurological and physiological perspective, this presentation examines why stress is contagious, how exposure to the distress and trauma of others can develop into vicarious trauma, and how to recognize the signs and symptoms of empathic strain and burnout. Learn how to mitigate trauma exposure with a toolbox of individual and organizational
strategies. Maggie Kapitan Maggie approaches therapy with a collaborative and systemic mindset, primarily utilizing Narrative, Collaborative Language Systems, and Gottman Method therapy techniques. Maggie is also a Prepare/Enrich Facilitator. Maggie works with individuals, couples, relationships, adolescents, and families to cope with troubles relating to depression, anxiety, relationship distress, communication, trauma, identity, and
relationship with self. Maggie prioritizes creating a safe and validating therapeutic environment for all clients. Growing up in the Chicago suburbs, then living in the Appalachians, has allowed Maggie to work with diverse client populations. Her life and family experiences have taught her the value of growth, change, forgiveness, and the importance of communication, Maggie believes in the power of healing through relationships and bases her work on strengthening these bonds. 1 General CLE Credit has been applied for.
